Cullera City Council has taken a decisive step towards the comprehensive reform of its Promenade after the Ministry of Finance, through the Directorate-General for European Funds, resolved the EDIL DANA Plan call. The municipality will receive an aid of 9 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
This aid granted to Cullera is part of a broader initiative. The EDIL DANA Plan allocates 273.2 million euros of ERDF funds to 95 local entities, with Cullera among the 18 intermediate cities benefiting from this call. The resolution confirms the allocation of 9 million euros for the city council.
The investment, along with half a million euros of municipal funds, will enable progress on an action considered historic. The central objective is to adapt the maritime infrastructure to the context of climate change, safeguarding this essential economic and tourist resource for the locality.
According to Cullera's mayor, Jordi Mayor, the project will prepare the city and the promenade to face future extreme phenomena, ensuring safety and protection. He emphasized that the promenade is a fundamental resource, concentrating a significant portion of tourist businesses and serving as the gateway to the municipality's beaches.
This action represents the largest investment in Cullera since the regeneration of the southern beaches, a macro-project by the Ministry for Ecological Transition with an investment exceeding 16 million euros. Both interventions aim to address the coastline's vulnerability to erosion.
The Promenade reform is part of Cullera's Urban Reconstruction Agenda, unanimously approved, which serves as a roadmap for urban regeneration, climate adaptation, and improving the municipality's resilience.
The resolution has already been communicated to the beneficiary entities. From now on, the period opens to submit the necessary documentation for their conformation as Light Intermediate Bodies (OIL), a figure that will allow city councils to initiate the selection and execution of operations.
