Construction work on the elder care residence located on Calle Onda in Castelló will conclude in October, with an expected opening in 2027. The center will serve a total of 120 users, including 80 places for dependent elderly individuals and 40 day-care spots.
The construction, funded by an investment of 14.2 million euros from the Generalitat Valenciana, is being carried out by the awarded company. The foundation stone was laid on October 11, 2024, and details are currently being finalized for the completion of the work in the coming weeks.
Sources from the regional administration explain that once construction is finished, the center will require several administrative procedures before opening. These include the acceptance of the work, obtaining municipal licenses such as the occupancy permit, and technical verification by the City Council of Castelló.
Subsequently, clinical furniture, socio-sanitary equipment, kitchens, laundry, and care areas will need to be tendered and installed. Additionally, a resolution from the Conselleria de Servicios Sociales will be necessary to register the center in the Registry of Entities, Centers, and Social Services.
Finally, a tender for the service will be launched to award the operational management, which will encompass healthcare, cleaning, catering, and direct care staff.
The residence has been built on a plot previously occupied by an urban garden, which has been relocated to another area of the southern district. This new facility will join the 39 existing residences in Castelló, offering a total of 3,372 places, as well as seven active aging centers.
Furthermore, the Borrull building, also subject to years of renovation, has now been operational and provides social services for the residents of Castelló.
