The construction of Censal Parc, one of the most significant urban projects for Castellón, has officially commenced. The City Council has awarded the initial stage of the project to a temporary union of companies (UTE) comprising Durantia Infraestructuras and Vivers Centre Verd, both part of Simetría Grupo. This initial phase has a budget of 6.28 million euros.
The works, which began last weekend, include the clearing and fencing of 40,000 m2 of land. Major construction is expected to start in September and conclude around summer 2027, with a projected execution period of ten months. This urban 'megapark', developed through citizen participation involving over 7,000 surveys, will span a total area of 122,000 m2.
The first phase, situated between Camí Almalafa, Carcagente street, and Fernando el Católico street, was described by the Councillor for Infrastructures, Sergio Toledo, as comparable in size to Rafalafena park. This initial area will serve as a preview of the complete park's structure.
The design will feature an adventure park with a 30-meter zip line, large-format slides, an adapted children's area, a biosaludable and calisthenics zone, picnic meadows with pergolas, and a kiosk. A water plaza with fountains and geysers will also be a highlight, along with a walkable 'orange' structure eight meters high, serving as a children's play element and an iconic visual landmark.
Furthermore, the park will include a running circuit of approximately half a kilometer and a perimeter system for water collection and recirculation. The design will respect the original agricultural layout, preserving historical irrigation channels and plots, and will integrate a transition avenue towards the urban area. The paving will consist of albero and concrete slabs, offering universal accessibility and native vegetation for shade and landscape continuity.
Censal Parc aligns with European environmental guidelines, projecting a 40% reduction in water usage and a 20% cut in pruning and phytosanitary treatments. The use of permeable soils and on-site organic waste utilization are other key features. The park's open design will enhance safety and spatial continuity, providing sensory stimuli and inclusive spaces.
Sergio Toledo concluded that "Censal Parc is no longer a pending project but an ongoing action." He emphasized that the park embodies the municipal government's vision to foster a greener, more sustainable, and healthier city, transforming Castellón with a new green lung and spaces for families and sports.
