Thanks to FEDER funds, Alzira will launch an urban modernization plan focused on improving two key avenues: Luis Suñer Avenue and Sants Patrons Avenue. The primary objective of this initiative is to establish a central urban circulation axis that promotes a sustainable mobility model, enhances accessibility, and fosters harmonious coexistence between vehicles and citizens.
Currently, these avenues feature narrow sidewalks and a predominant vehicle presence, limiting their use as habitable public spaces. The reforms aim to optimize available space and significantly reduce car traffic.
This project is part of broader interventions planned for Plaça del Regne and Plaça del Mercat. A vehicular passage will be created to connect both squares, strictly limiting car access. Areas near the walls and the market will become exclusive spaces for bicycles and pedestrians.
Additionally, a new green zone exclusively for pedestrians will be designed, replacing the current bus stop. For better traffic management, a new roundabout will be constructed to connect Sants Patrons Avenue with Hispanitat Avenue. The street in front of the old cinema will revert to two-way traffic.
It is worth noting that last July, the Alzira City Council received the economic allocation for the creation of the new Luis Suñer square, located at the intersection of Riola street and Luis Suñer Avenue.
All these actions are part of the Comprehensive Action Plan within Alzira City Council's Urban Reconstruction Agenda. The total investment for this urban and road reconfiguration amounts to €1.4 million.
Work is scheduled to begin after the summer, with a commitment to meet citizen demands and ensure a coherent and harmonious urban connection.
