The International Festival of Music the Harvest and the Wine (FiMuVin) in Requena will host a concert headlined by renowned Spanish singers Plácido Domingo, Ainhoa Arteta, and Antonio Gandía. The event will feature the Fundación Ciudad de Requena Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Francisco Melero, and will take place at the Teatro Principal on Sunday, August 23rd at 10 PM. For Domingo and Gandía, this will mark their first performance in Requena, while Arteta will be performing there for the second time.
This lyrical gala is being held in a special year for the Fundación Ciudad de Requena Philharmonic Orchestra, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and coincides with Requena's designation as the Spanish City of Wine 2026. The program, titled 'La voz y el alma de España' (The Voice and Soul of Spain), will include notable works from the world of zarzuela, promising to be a significant musical event for the city.
Plácido Domingo has expressed his excitement about performing for the first time in Requena alongside Ainhoa Arteta and Antonio Gandía, highlighting the initiative to bring Spanish music during such a significant year for the orchestra. He emphasized the fusion of opera and zarzuela with the art and history of the city, which boasts over 2,700 years of history.
With a career spanning 67 years as a professional opera singer, Plácido Domingo has recorded over 100 operas and received 12 Grammy Awards. His collaborations with José Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti brought opera to millions of fans. Meanwhile, Ainhoa Arteta has expressed her happiness at returning to Requena and sharing the stage with Domingo and Gandía, calling it a dream come true.
Antonio Gandía, considered one of the leading Spanish tenors today, stated that the concert will be a grand lyrical gala and a personal and artistic pleasure to perform again with two great artists. The tenor, who trained with Alfredo Kraus, has performed in prestigious venues such as the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Liceu in Barcelona, and La Scala in Milan.
The festival's closing act will be by Hidenisi Klezmer Balkan on Saturday, September 19th at 7:30 PM, offering a journey through the musical traditions of Eastern Europe. The festival is supported by various institutions, including the Generalitat Valenciana and the Provincial Council of Valencia.
