The construction of the cycle-pedestrian path connecting Xilxes to its beach is progressing, with seven companies having submitted bids for the project. The initiative, launched by the Generalitat Valenciana, has a budget of 2.1 million euros (VAT included) and an estimated execution period of 12 months.
The project involves creating a 3-meter wide path adjacent to the CV-2280, linking with the road network under the AP-7 motorway to the west and with Mallorca street on the beach to the east. The design speed will be between 15 and 20 km/h, with an exceptional minimum of 10 km/h.
To enhance safety, the lanes of the CV-2280 will be adjusted to 3.25 meters and the shoulders to 0.50 and 1.25 meters. The maximum permitted speed will be reduced from 70 to 60 km/h via signage. Additionally, solar streetlights will be installed every 31 meters, and two rest areas with benches, recycled bike racks, planters, and trees will be created.
The need for a safe connection between Xilxes and the coast has driven this project. Currently, the 2.2-kilometer stretch between the AP-7 and the beach poses risks for cyclists, as vehicles travel at speeds exceeding the limit, and ditches and verges compromise user safety.
Through this project, the Generalitat aims to reduce oil dependency, promote sustainable mobility, encourage cycling and pedestrian routes, and establish an interconnected cycle-pedestrian network.
