The mayor of Onda, Carmina Ballester, and the rector of the National University of Distance Education (UNED), Ricardo Mairal, have confirmed the upcoming opening of a new university campus in the town. Starting in October, the new Ágora Onda building will host 10 university degrees, which can be pursued both in-person and online. Among the offered degrees is the Degree in Artificial Intelligence Engineering, a pioneering program.
The meeting, held in Madrid, was also attended by the director of UNED Castellón, Alejandro Ribes, and the entity's secretary, Vicente Martínez. Both the mayor and the rector have highlighted the importance of bringing university education closer to cities like Onda, which act as a backbone for numerous small towns in the surrounding area.
Ballester thanked the rector for the trust placed in Onda to host a campus of Spain's largest public university and a benchmark in online and blended learning in Europe. Students can now enroll in the 10 offered degrees, which include programs such as Psychology, Early Childhood Education, and various engineering degrees, in addition to the aforementioned Artificial Intelligence.
This academic offering responds to the high demand for technical profiles in the ceramic and logistics companies of the region, aiming to train new professionals who will contribute to the growth of local businesses. The mayor emphasized that turning Onda into a university city is a dream come true that consolidates the town as a top-tier center with the best services.
For his part, Alejandro Ribes stressed the collaboration with Onda to expand university education in the province, and announced that work will continue to enhance the range of university, cultural, and training services.
The Ágora Onda building, in addition to housing the UNED campus, will also feature a new library and study room for the citizens of Onda and its region.
