Unanimity marked the meeting held this Wednesday between the City Council of la Vall d'Uixó and les Penyes en Festes. Given the fire situation affecting several localities, the decision was made to postpone the initial festival events, which were scheduled to begin this Friday.
The decision, supported by the mayor Tania Baños, the Councilor for Festivities Ximo Zorrilla, the board of directors of the 'Penyes' led by its president Héctor Bermúdez, and the presidents of the nearly fifty associated 'penyes', is summarized in the message: 'As long as there are evacuated municipalities due to the fire, we cannot worry about anything other than them returning home soon,' explained Zorrilla.
All events scheduled for Friday and Saturday are suspended. The initial idea, although 'everything will depend on the evolution of the fire,' would be to resume the festivities on Sunday at midday. This also raises questions about the celebration of the traditional 'encierro de cerriles' (bull run).
The Councilor for Festivities indicated that the reorganization of the week will be studied, but the priority is 'to be in solidarity with the residents of the evacuated towns.' He recalled that Vall d'Uixó knows well what fire means, as it was the municipality where the fire started, and until Monday, there were evacuated residents in several neighborhoods.
Zorrilla clarified that the suspension is not due to a lack of security resources for the 'penyes,' but rather a gesture of solidarity. Information will be updated in the coming days.
