The three neighborhood festival committees of La Vilavella, Sants de la Pedra, Sant Roc, and Sant Xotxim, have made a joint and unanimous decision with the City Council: no festive events will be held, nor will bullfighting spectacles take place while the fire is active in the municipality. The proximity of the festivals and the drama experienced by the town have motivated this measure.
The program for Sants de la Pedra, scheduled for this week, will be moved to October, coinciding with the bridge holiday on the 9th. The committee had one of the bulls in the municipality's corrals and two more at the fattening farm, and regulations require it to be either exhibited or sacrificed. They are processing an exceptional movement permit with the Conselleria (Regional Ministry) to transfer it to the fattening farm and wait until October. The other two bulls, already at the fattening farm, will only require modification of the date permits.
The committees have expressed that the extraordinary situation means "the mood is not ideal for celebrations." They thank the City Council for its support and highlight the commitment and solidarity of the other festivals. The decision, although complicated, is considered the best given the current circumstances.
For their part, the committees of Sant Roc and Sant Xotxim, if the fire extinction is prolonged, will postpone feasible events and suspend those that are not. This decision follows the example of other municipalities such as la Vall d'Uixó and Peñíscola, which have also taken similar measures due to the severity of the situation.
