The swift intervention of the Burriana Local Police, alerted by a neighbor, has allowed the thwarting of an attempted property squat this week. Officers surprised several individuals who had already forced the entrance door and intended to settle in the dwelling, which was uninhabited and lacked minimal amenities for habitation.
Police officers inspected the damage to the access and found various belongings inside that the individuals intended to bring in. After identifying the people involved, the police ensured they vacated the property and proceeded to initiate proceedings for alleged usurpation. The report has been sent to the Burriana Civil Guard Post for transfer to the Duty Court.
This action is part of the preventive work carried out by the Prevenpol unit, specialized in monitoring occupied properties and those at risk of squatting. Currently, the operation has identified 36 occupied properties and keeps seven more under preventive surveillance. According to data from the City Council, most occupied properties belong to banking entities, company bankruptcy estates, or large holders.
The police indicate that this monitoring allows for the detection and anticipation of problems associated with squatting, such as coexistence conflicts, electricity fraud, or social vulnerability situations. The mayor and head of Citizen Security, Jorge Monferrer, highlighted the importance of combining immediate police response with preventive work to prevent these criminal acts.
