The talent of the Canarian midfielder Alberto Moleiro was decisive, as he scored one goal and provided two assists to seal the match. The Castellón-based team was superior to a Levante side that made defensive errors in ball circulation and had limited offensive output.
Villarreal started the match with energy, with Ilias Akhomach as the main threat, but lacked accuracy in the final shot. Levante approached the game with ambition, and their best chance came from a shot by Iván Romero that hit the side netting.
Villarreal's offensive production increased with Moleiro's involvement. After an assist from him to Ayoze that was not converted, Moleiro himself opened the scoring with a connection to Ayoze. However, Levante managed to equalize before halftime with an acrobatic goal from Iván Romero from a cross by Toljan.
In the second half, a mistake in Levante's ball circulation allowed Villarreal to regain possession. Akhomach assisted Moleiro with a backheel, who scored the second goal. Villarreal took advantage of Levante's disarray to try and extend their lead.
Despite Levante's attempts to equalize in the final minutes, with chances from Toljan and Brugué, Villarreal sealed the match in the closing moments. Another defensive error by Levante was exploited by Moleiro to assist Mikautadze, who scored the definitive 3-1.
