The Burriana City Council has released the latest data from the municipal campaign for canine DNA genetic registration. A total of 2,154 free voucher requests have been counted, and 1,952 genetic registrations of animals have been formalized in the municipality. This means that 90.6% of the processed requests have effectively become canine censuses, with only 202 applications pending sample collection.
With nearly 2,000 dogs registered out of an estimated population of around 4,000 in the municipality, coverage in Burriana stands at 48.8%. The trend in recent weeks has been positive, with an increase in registrations exceeding new requests.
During the second half of September, the council will launch a reminder campaign via direct message or email to owners with pending vouchers. The goal is to provide them with the code and instructions to visit participating clinics and resolve any doubts before the first phase of the program concludes.
The deadline to obtain the free voucher is September 30. However, all individuals who have the voucher issued before that date will have until November 30, 2026, to visit the veterinarian for sample collection.
From October 1, once this period ends, the test will become mandatory at a cost of 37.85 euros. Furthermore, upon completion of this campaign phase, the Burriana Local Police will begin to demand the relevant documentation from owners in public spaces. Failure to have a genetic census, allowing animals to roam untied, or abandoning excrement will result in fines ranging from 500 to 3,000 euros.

The Councillor for Health, Isabel Monfort, highlighted "the excellent response and civility of Burriana's dog owners". In this regard, she encouraged "the more than 200 residents who already have the free voucher to visit their trusted veterinary clinics in the coming days to complete the sample, as well as those owners who have not yet requested it to take advantage of this last stretch of September to complete the process completely free of charge before the deadline".
