The Burriana City Council will allocate nearly 19,570 euros for the installation of a new artistic lighting system for the Santa Bárbara Hermitage, enhancing the illumination of the apse and main altar.

The intervention, scheduled for December, aims to dignify the temple's artistic heritage, highlighting the monumental murals created by renowned local artist Pepe Forner since 2017. This pictorial work, originally promoted by priest Antonio Losas and supported by patrons like tenor Plácido Domingo for specific canvases, is considered one of the most significant contemporary artistic endeavors in the town.
The project is part of the municipal plan «Burriana Reluce» (Burriana Shines), under the slogan «Lighting the past, looking to the future». Through this initiative, the Santa Bárbara Hermitage joins the list of emblematic buildings with ornamental lighting, such as the Font de Mora house, the Bell Tower, the City Hall facade, or the Basilica of El Salvador. The goal is to establish a heritage route that showcases the cultural richness of the capital of la Plana Baixa.
The technical proposal involves an investment of approximately 19,570 euros, which will be fully covered by the lighting service company as an improvement within the current contract. The project includes the renovation of the electrical line and the installation of high-precision projectors with the intelligent Casambi system, a technology that avoids aggressive construction or wiring to preserve the historic structure.
The mayor of Burriana, Jorge Monferrer, highlighted that this state-of-the-art artistic lighting is being carried out at no cost to the residents. He emphasized that the measure demonstrates how the city can be modernized, its historical heritage enhanced, and citizens' finances protected through the optimization of municipal resources.
