The Azul Marino Foundation and the Torreblanca City Council have initiated a collaboration within the 'El Pulmón del Mediterráneo' campaign. This initiative, working since 2025 with the Oceanogràfic Foundation, aims to raise awareness about the vital role of Posidonia oceanica on the coasts of the province of Castellón.
The campaign combines the installation of a large format banner on a municipal facade, an open talk for the public, and an official presentation. The event was attended by the mayor, Tania Agut, the Councillor for Beaches, Gema Edo, and Pablo García, project director of the Azul Marino Foundation.
Tania Agut highlighted the pleasure of hosting the campaign to raise awareness about the importance of Posidonia for beach quality. Pablo García explained that the objective is to protect this often overlooked ecosystem, which acts as a refuge for marine fauna and protects against erosion.
The installed banner, designed by students from a high school in Vinaròs, reproduces the campaign's poster. Meanwhile, Jaime Penadés, a biologist from the Azul Marino Foundation, gave a talk on Posidonia oceanica at the Espai Natura in Torreblanca.
Torreblanca has collaborated for years with the 'Tortugas en el Mediterráneo' campaign and, starting next academic year, its schools will join the catshark egg project, where students will learn to monitor embryo development.
This initiative follows up on previous actions, such as integration with the Projecte Posidònia mobile app, which maps areas of Posidonia oceanica and other marine plants for responsible navigation.
The Azul Marino Foundation is dedicated to the conservation of marine species and environmental education in Castellón, managing the Marine Species Conservation Center in collaboration with the Oceanogràfic Foundation.
