Yesterday was marked by intense heat in the province of Castellón. According to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Segorbe recorded the highest temperature at 40.5 ºC. Other inland areas also suffered extreme temperatures, such as Atzeneta del Maestrat with 39.5 ºC and Villafranca del Cid with 36.1 ºC.
Along the coast, temperatures were also significantly high. Castelló-Almassora reached a maximum of 34.9 ºC in the mid-afternoon, accompanied by 52% relative humidity and wind gusts of up to 27 km/h. The night offered little respite, with a nocturnal minimum of 24.3 ºC.
In Castellón de la Plana and its surroundings, the heat was particularly noticeable during the central hours of the day, leading to fewer people in the streets as they sought shade and protected areas to cope with the heat.
In other coastal towns, Torreblanca reached 33.2 ºC, while the Vinaròs-Viveros Alcanar station recorded 34.5 ºC. The official forecast for Castellón de la Plana was 39 ºC, a value that was ultimately not met.
The records show a notable contrast between different areas of the province, although the common denominator was a day of intense heat, with highs exceeding 40 ºC inland and values close to 35 ºC across much of the coast.
