The mayor of Castelló, Begoña Carrasco, and the director of the associated UNED center in Castelló, Alejandro Ribes, have formalized the collaboration between the City Council and the university consortium for the "UNED Sénior Castelló 2026 Activities Program" project. The signing, which took place in the Mayor's office, was also attended by the Councilor for the Elderly, Clara Adsuara, and the secretary of the educational entity, Vicente Martínez.
As explained by Carrasco, the project aims to develop training, cultural, and lifelong learning activities in Castelló, specifically for individuals over 55, within the framework of UNED Sénior. It also includes university extension activities, outreach, conferences, workshops, summer courses, and complementary events for the public.
The UNED Sénior activities in Castelló will commence next October and will be based at the Senior Center for Active and Healthy Life (CEA), located at Antonio Maura street, number 4. The mayor emphasized the commitment to active and healthy aging, knowledge, and culture, and highlighted the ongoing expansion of educational and training opportunities for older residents.
This marks the second year of collaboration with UNED. Last year, classes were held at the Casal Jove del Grau. For the 2026/2027 academic year, up to 11 different subjects will be offered. The first semester will include: Plastic Arts; Public Speaking and Confidence; Journalism and Current Affairs: How News is Reported; The Transition from Emotion to Surprise; Art History; and AI: What It Is and How to Use It.
The second semester will feature: Cultural Heritage; Dialogic Literary Discussions; Valencian Culture; Understanding Our Time; Philosophy; and Public Speaking and Communicating with Confidence. Castelló City Council will contribute 20,000 euros for these courses.
