The donation, including food and essential products, was formalized at the facilities of Supermercado Mendoza, an establishment collaborating with the solidarity initiative. The event was attended by U3A president, Garry Bell, and its treasurer, Elisabeth Potter, along with other association members. Representing Social Volunteering was its treasurer, Johana Wilson. On behalf of the l'Alfàs del Pi Town Council, the Councilor for International Residents, Martine Mertens, and the Councilor for Relations with Associations and Resident Clubs, Patrick de Meirsman, participated.
U3A Marina Baixa, established over a decade ago, conducts its activities in several municipalities within the region, including l'Alfàs del Pi, Benidorm, Callosa d’en Sarrià, Finestrat, La Nucía, Polop, and Villajoyosa. This association, primarily composed of retired individuals of British origin, is headquartered in l'Alfàs del Pi and holds monthly meetings at the Casa de Cultura.
The primary objective of the University of the Third Age is to foster cultural and intellectual interest among its members, while simultaneously promoting the creation of new bonds of friendship and community. It is a non-profit organization, part of an international movement dedicated to the learning and social participation of older adults.
Through U3A, a diverse program of cultural, educational, and leisure activities is organized. These encompass courses in Spanish language, history, and culture, painting, bridge, and digital photography classes, as well as activities related to golf, petanca, and classical music. Trips, excursions, and gatherings are also arranged to enhance social cohesion among its members.
The presence of U3A in Marina Baixa is seen as a notable example of active participation by the resident international population. This community not only offers a broad cultural and social program but also collaborates closely with local entities and engages in solidarity initiatives for the benefit of the community.
