The municipality of l’Alfàs del Pi will take part in the III International Blue Flag Congress, held from September 30th to October 2nd in Islantilla (Huelva). The participation will focus on a presentation about the local experience in environmental education and outreach through its Blue Centers. The Councilor for Tourism, Beaches, and Environment, Luis Miguel Morant, will present the work developed by the municipality in this area during the congress's first day.
Currently, l’Alfàs del Pi holds six Blue Center distinctions, a figure that positions it as a European leader in the number of these recognitions. This award honors spaces dedicated to environmental information, education, and interpretation, underscoring the municipality's commitment to protecting natural heritage and offering tourism linked to conservation and environmental knowledge.
The six recognized spaces as Blue Centers are the Faro de l’Albir Interpretation Center, the Los Carrascos Environmental Interpretation and Participation Center (CIPM), the ‘La Antigua Cantera’ Environmental Interpretation Center, the Carabineros Environmental Education Center, the Villa Romana de l’Albir Open-Air Museum, and the Escoles Velles Cultural Space. These locations carry out essential outreach and educational work to showcase the biodiversity, history, and environmental and cultural values of the municipality.
Luis Miguel Morant expressed the municipality's satisfaction in sharing its experience at an international congress and highlighting the annual work of the Blue Centers. He emphasized that the six recognitions are the result of a continuous strategy where environmental education, conservation, and outreach are fundamental pillars. The councilor stressed that the local tourism model is not limited to sun and beach but also includes the protection and promotion of the municipality's unique natural, historical, and cultural resources, considering conservation a shared responsibility.
The III International Blue Flag Congress, taking place at the Hotel Puerto Antilla Grand in Islantilla, will gather representatives from administrations, universities, and industry professionals to discuss the challenges of sustainability, health, and safety in coastal municipalities. The program includes sessions on ADEAC-FEE programs, environmental education, coastal legislation, safety and lifeguarding, accessibility, and coastal carrying capacity.
L’Alfàs del Pi's participation in this edition continues its previous involvement, as the municipality co-hosted the II International Blue Flag Congress in 2024. Morant highlighted the importance of maintaining active collaboration and knowledge exchange with other coastal municipalities to promote initiatives that balance tourism activity with the protection of the coastline and natural heritage.
