The gathering will strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between these towns and the municipality of L'Alfàs, highlighting the shared historical and cultural connections. The Councilor for International Residents, Martine Mertens, emphasized the event's importance in celebrating coexistence and cultural diversity.
The French delegation, led by Mayor Valérie Revel, includes a Big Band that will perform on Saturday, the 24th, at the Plaza Mayor, and on Sunday, the 25th, at the Casa de Cultura. Lescar and L'Alfàs del Pi are celebrating 40 years of twinning, formalized on November 20, 1985.
Meanwhile, the delegation from Covarrubias (Burgos), headed by its mayor Raúl Gredilla, has been twinned with L'Alfàs del Pi since 2016, based on shared historical and cultural links with Norway. Covarrubias holds the remains of Princess Kristina and is part of the St. Olav's Way, while L'Alfàs del Pi has a significant Norwegian community.
Mertens highlighted that twinnings represent relationships between people and exchanges of experiences, with music and culture serving as tools to connect territories. The municipality's international profile is enhanced by these ties, contributing to an open and welcoming community.
The XIX International Day will bring together over 50 associations from around thirty countries, featuring information stands, gastronomic tastings, and musical and dance performances on the Casa de Cultura esplanade.
