The Villajoyosa City Council has sent a request to the Third Vice-Presidency and Conselleria of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory, and Recovery of the Generalitat Valenciana to initiate the dissolution procedure for the Joint Taxi Service Area of Marina Baixa. This request addresses detected service provision difficulties, as communicated by Mayor Marcos Zaragoza.
The municipal plenary session had already approved this request on June 20, 2024, highlighting the need to address the current service situation. The modification of Article 20.2 of Law 13/2017 provides a pathway to resolve existing issues, according to the mayor.
Marcos Zaragoza indicated that the petition includes evaluating the dissolution of the area or Villajoyosa's potential withdrawal, seeking the most legally viable and agreed-upon solution with affected municipalities. The mayor expressed the council's cooperation to find a resolution that offers clarity to professionals and adequate coverage to users.
The Councilor for Mobility and Citizen Security, Jaime Santamaría, recalled a meeting held in July 2026 with the taxi sector and political groups to analyze the situation and propose improvements for offering a quality public service.
For the past three years, the council has been working to enhance the service. The request to the Conselleria aims to start a procedure for other municipalities to provide their opinions. Since 2024, the council has engaged in various actions and agreements with the taxi sector, attended meetings with the Territorial Directorate and the General Directorate of Transport, and collaborated with other city councils to address current issues such as availability, waiting times, and coverage during nights and holidays.
