Villajoyosa will join the commemoration of World Alzheimer's Day on September 21st with two notable activities: the inauguration of the 'Tree of Memory' and the II Solidarity March. These initiatives are driven by a group of workers from the Fundación Aragonés Day Center and are part of the Alzheimer's Week events organized by AFA Marina Baixa (Association of Families and Alzheimer's Patients) in the region.
The organization has arranged several activities in Marina Baixa to raise awareness about this disease, offer support to those affected and their caregivers, and emphasize the importance of comprehensive care and memories.
On Monday, September 14th, the 'Tree of Memory' will be inaugurated in the gardens of the Residencia Santa Marta. Mayor Marcos Zaragoza explained that “this emotive symbolic act aims to highlight the importance of memories, but above all, it is a recognition of people suffering from this disease that precisely erodes all that they remember”. The Councilor for Social Services and Equality, Maite Sánchez, added that “this tree is born from a seed planted together with AFA Marina Baixa to symbolize all those memories that are never forgotten”. Citizens are invited to join this event, which will begin at 11:00 AM.
The activities will continue on Sunday, September 20th, with the II Solidarity March Alzheimer Villajoyosa. The march will start at 9:30 AM from Barbera Park and will cover 3 kilometers of easy difficulty. Registrations are now open online via the website [www.somesport.com](http://www.somesport.com) and in person at various collaborating establishments. Bibs can be collected from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM at the starting point. Afterwards, there will be raffles, a solidarity bar, and music.
The Councilor for Social Services detailed that “the entirety of the funds raised from the march will be allocated entirely to financing the support programs, care, and resources of AFA Marina Baixa”. Mayor Marcos Zaragoza highlighted “the altruistic and supportive role that AFA Marina Baixa plays for all relatives and people suffering from this disease that affects families so much. We have a firm commitment from the City Council with all of them and with all the social associations that work day by day to improve citizen care”.
