L’Alfàs del Pi will host World Singing Day for the first time on Saturday, October 17th, an international celebration bringing together residents of all ages and nationalities at the Playa Albir Social Center.

The initiative, organized by the community choir enCanto Vivo, aims to promote music and collective singing as a means of connection and meeting. The event, running from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, is open to all citizens, requiring no prior musical knowledge or choral experience.
World Singing Day, founded in 2012 by Scott Johnson in Colorado (USA), is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of October. Its goal is to unite communities worldwide through singing, using music as a universal language. In l’Alfàs del Pi, the celebration will include learning a pop song, performances by the enCanto Vivo choir, and a group sing-along of the year's song, ‘Room for Everyone’.
The Councilor for International Residents, Martine Mertens, encouraged participation, highlighting singing as a simple way to meet and connect, reflecting the municipality's international character. Meanwhile, the Councilor for Relations with Collectives, Patrick de Meirsman, emphasized the open and non-competitive nature of the activity, designed for enjoying the union of many voices.
The choir enCanto Vivo, founded in 2025 and led by Marieke Bouman with piano accompaniment by Johan Nordqvist, currently has 35 members and continues to welcome new participants. Their repertoire includes songs like ‘Viva la vida’ and ‘Hallelujah’. The organization hopes this event will help them gain recognition and establish it as an annual fixture.
Admission is free and open to all, presenting an opportunity to build community and connect people from different cultures through music.
