The City Council of Villajoyosa has organized an event to commemorate Alzheimer's Day, celebrated on September 21st. The event included the inauguration of the “Tree of Memory” and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in the gardens of Residencia Santa Marta.
The event was attended by various local authorities, including the first Deputy Mayor, Pedro Ramis, and the Councilor for Social Services, Maite Sánchez, along with other council members. Representatives from associations such as AFA Marina Baixa, the director of Residencia Santa Marta, Cristina Vaquero, and the director of the Day Center of the Fundación Aragonés, Pepe Segrelles, as well as staff, users, and families, also participated.
Cristina, Mari, and Carlos, staff members of the Day Center, initiated this symbolic initiative to pay tribute to individuals suffering from Alzheimer's, as well as their families and caregivers. A “Ginkgo biloba” tree has been planted, next to which a plaque has been placed with an inscription highlighting the strength of roots and love in the face of forgetfulness.
This tree specimen was planted last May by Mayor Marcos Zaragoza, Councilor Maite Sánchez, Councilor Ana Alcázar (whose department donated the specimen), and representatives from Residencia Santa Marta and the Day Center. During the event, seeds of the “forget-me-not” flower were distributed.

This event marks the beginning of the Alzheimer's Week, organized by AFA Marina Baixa. Garbiñe Mondragón, from the association, thanked all participants for their involvement in raising awareness about the disease and supporting affected individuals and their families.
As part of the events organized in Villajoyosa, next Sunday, September 20th, the II Solidarity March will take place. The march will start at 9:30 AM from Barbera Park and cover 3 kilometers. Registrations are now open online and in person.
