The agreement, signed by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the president of the Shelter, Pilar López Cepeda, allocates a municipal contribution of 50,000 euros. These funds will cover the costs of collection, maintenance, and veterinary assistance for domestic animals abandoned in the city.
The mayor highlighted that this subsidy will ensure the service continues to be provided with full guarantees. Pérez emphasized Benidorm's commitment and sensitivity towards animals in need of protection and without a home.
The Councilor for Health, Ana Pellicer, also present at the signing, recalled that the aid covers both the feeding and medical care of animals rescued from the streets. Furthermore, she praised the entity's educational and awareness-raising work, as well as its campaigns to promote responsible adoption.
Pellicer also mentioned the support the shelter provides to individuals who cannot keep their pets due to personal circumstances. Both she and the mayor called for citizen responsibility, reminding that adoption represents a lifelong commitment.
It is worth remembering that the Municipal Ordinance on the Environment considers the abandonment of domestic animals a very serious offense, with fines that can reach up to 900 euros.
