The Marina Alta region experienced an intense day due to a 'reventón húmedo' (a weather phenomenon combining intense rainfall with strong winds). This resulted in numerous fallen trees, particularly in Gata and along the road connecting it to Llíber. Civil Protection teams worked diligently to clear branches and trunks.
Additionally, a cornice partially collapsed in the urban center of Gata. During the most critical moments, Les Sorts avenue was closed to traffic, restricting access to the health center.
The situation at sea was also perilous. Off the coast of Cala del Moraig in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, two individuals on a paddleboard were swept out to sea by strong currents following a sudden weather change. After prolonged moments of distress, they were rescued by a Salvamento Marítimo (Maritime Rescue) helicopter.
The rescue was facilitated by coordination with emergency services (112) and the use of a mobile phone by the victims, which allowed for continuous communication and location tracking. Civil Protection reiterated the importance of checking weather forecasts, as a yellow alert for rain, storms, and coastal phenomena was active.
