The Valencian Community recorded a historic night with temperatures above 35 degrees in over 90 locations, notably 39ºC in Denia.

This Thursday night marked a historic event for Valencian meteorology, with the 'ponentà' wind described as 'dantesque'. According to data from the Valencian Meteorology Association (Avamet), more than 90 municipalities surpassed 35 degrees Celsius by 00:00 hours.
Locations such as Gandia, Oliva, Cullera, Pego, Pedreguer, Favara, Corbera, Orba, Sagra, Valencia, Quart de Poblet, Picanya, Tavernes de la Valldigna, Parcent, Redován, Benirredrà, and La Vilavella registered temperatures above 37 degrees.
In Nules, the westerly wind pushed thermometers to 37.3 degrees Celsius at 01:16 AM, the highest recorded temperature in the municipality in 2026. Other towns like La Vilavella reached 38 degrees, Betxí 37, and La Vall d'Uixó and the southern part of Onda registered 36.
The highest minimum temperature during the early morning occurred in Valencia, where thermometers did not drop below 32.4 degrees. Avamet has described the year as 'the hottest since records began in most Valencian towns', attributing it to climate change. During this 'unprecedented' night, 77% of Avamet's 677 stations did not fall below 25ºC, and 130 stations did not drop below 30ºC.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) noted that the westerly wind shifted in the coastal areas of Valencia, northern Alicante, and southern Castellón, causing temperatures to rise above 35 degrees and humidity to drop below 30 percent.
It is worth remembering that Valencia recorded 42.8°C on Wednesday, the fourth highest value since Aemet's observations began in 1869. By 8 AM this Thursday, Xàtiva showed 33º, Valencia 31º, Oliva 31º, Miramar 30.5º, Castellón de la Plana 29.6º, Alicante 28.6º, Xàbia 28º, and Llíria, also 28º.
