In anticipation of the solar eclipse on August 12, which will be 99.90% visible in Dénia and reach its peak at 8:33 PM, a significant increase in mobility and crowd concentration is expected. Les Marines and Les Deveses beaches are identified as prime viewing locations by the Associació Astronòmica Marina Alta.
The Municipal Coordination Center (CECOPAL) of Dénia held a meeting today to plan the necessary actions. The meeting, chaired by mayor Rafa Carrió, included councilors for Citizen Security, Tourism, and Beaches, the head of the Local Police, Jovi Estruch, representatives from the National Police, the Montgó natural park, and Civil Protection.
The Generalitat Valenciana has declared a pre-emergency level 3 for forest fire risk and announced the closure of the Montgó natural park for August 12, a measure previously requested by the Dénia City Council. Transit of people through forest land across the Valencian Community is also prohibited. The Local Police will monitor access to Montgó to ensure compliance with this order.
The Local Police will strengthen its afternoon shift with 20 officers for surveillance of Montgó and the beaches, and will deploy a specialized unit's drone. The National Police will also assign 5 patrols to monitor Montgó access, the northern breakwater area, and patrol the beaches. Civil Protection will support the operation.
The City Council will extend beach surveillance and lifeguard service hours until 9:30 PM, an hour and a half longer than usual, and will enhance cleaning, particularly in areas expected to have high attendance. The prohibition of making fires on beaches remains in effect.
To facilitate mobility, the Dénia City Council recommends using public transport along the beaches and utilizing public parking if traveling by private vehicle. The public is urged to follow safety advice from the Generalitat Valenciana, including using approved glasses for eclipse viewing, avoiding unnecessary travel, respecting the environment, and adhering to instructions from authorities.
