The Dénia City Council, governed by PSPV and Compromís, has initiated work on the construction of a new permanent cycling circuit, located next to the Via Verda, in the Madrigueres Nord area. According to municipal sources, this new sports infrastructure responds to "a demand made by the city's two cycling clubs."
The Department of Sports has developed the project in coordination with these entities, aiming for the circuit to meet the needs of athletes for both regular training and official competitions. The Councilor for Sports, Valen Alcalà (Compromís), highlighted that it had been a demand "for many years" and that a permanent location for this sport modality has been sought.
Construction has already begun, and the circuit is expected to be completed around September, making it available for the upcoming sports season.
The course will be approximately 2.5 kilometers long with a 4-meter wide lane, complying with current regulations. The project includes clearing and preparing the plot, constructing the track, and incorporating technical elements such as a sand pit with containment barriers and a mound with steps made from sleepers. Access will also be conditioned, and a parking area will be created.
Its proximity to the municipal sports center is a key advantage, allowing the use of existing facilities like changing rooms and facilitating the organization of competitions. Alcalà explained that the goal is for it to be "a living space" that hosts events for the regional cyclocross and BTT leagues, thus promoting these disciplines from the grassroots.
Furthermore, the circuit will be versatile and can be used for other activities, such as school cross-country running events, a possibility that has already generated interest from some educational centers.
The launch of this facility will allow local cyclists to expand their training opportunities without needing to travel to other municipalities, thereby diversifying the city's sports offerings. The councilor concluded that "Dénia is a city with a great passion for cycling" and that the circuit aims to be another tool to help this deeply rooted sport grow in the region.
