Friday night was marked by a succession of fires in Xàbia. While the fire declared in the Lluca pine forest, which was already the second in 8 days, remained active, a new fire broke out at Cabo de Sant Antoni, within the Montgó natural park. The alarm sounded at 9:55 PM, and firefighters from the Alicante Consortium responded quickly. They managed to extinguish it when only about two square meters had burned, leaving it as a minor outbreak.
The afternoon had been intense. Around 8:30 PM, the Lluca fire started in a dense pine forest area. The rapid action of Civil Protection from Xàbia and El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, the local police forces of both municipalities, the volunteer firefighters from Balcón al Mar, and the firefighters from the Alicante Consortium were key to stopping the flames' advance. The Camí Vell de Teulada had to be closed to facilitate extinction efforts.
The proximity of the two incidents, especially the fact that the second occurred while the first was still active and in an area of difficult access, has generated suspicions about the possible intentionality of the fires. Emergency personnel were cooling the Lluca area and monitoring for any re-ignition when they received the alert for the new fire at Cabo de Sant Antoni.
