Dénia's road network faces a critical situation during the summer months, particularly at points like the Plaça del Benidorm, a traffic hub where urban routes, the access to the maritime station, and the road to Les Marines converge.
Since last Saturday, the Camí del Llavador has been partially closed due to a sewage leak from the EPSAR collector, managed by the Generalitat. This situation has forced traffic from numerous urbanizations to be diverted to the Plaça del Benidorm, increasing the gridlock that has persisted since the weekend.
Affected residents and tourists must take alternative routes such as Miguel Hernández street and the road to Les Marines to reach their homes, causing significant traffic collapse in these sections.
The situation worsens when Baleària ferries dock. Despite the expansion to four lanes for access from the maritime terminal, vehicles disembark into the only two lanes of the Plaça del Benidorm, creating considerable congestion.
Meanwhile, the Ronda Nord (northern ring road) project, designed to alleviate traffic in this part of Dénia, remains blocked. Following disagreements between the Generalitat and the Dénia City Council regarding the construction of high-rise buildings, the project awaits a definitive solution.
