Summer has brought traffic jams to the Marina Alta. This midday, the two regional exits of the AP-7, those at Ondara and Benissa, were completely gridlocked. Cars are stopped in a single file in the right lane, with jams estimated to be miles long. Drivers caught in the traffic have asked for patience, waiting over half an hour to exit the highway.
These two exits handle the traffic heading towards Dénia, Xàbia, Moraira, Benissa, and Calp, which are major tourist hubs. The volume of vehicles is considerable, forming a veritable river of cars.
Saturday midday is peak hour at these exits. More than one tourist is forced to call the restaurant where they have a reservation to announce their delay. Although it's known that the same thing happens every Saturday, many find themselves stuck in the jam once again. The queues mainly form in the direction of Alicante, turning the highway from València into a constant flow of vehicles on summer weekend mornings and afternoons.
