Following previous "tactical urbanism" interventions, Xàtiva's city council will consolidate the transformation of the Raval's core, around Pintor Tudela square, to create a more pleasant, safe, and accessible space for pedestrians. The project, budgeted at 135,884 euros, focuses on the redevelopment of the area surrounding Pintor Tudela square and the streets Font de Sant Joan, Conseller Bosch i Morata, and Banys de Moreria.
The main change will be the widening of sidewalks by approximately 530 square meters. This measure will materialize areas previously reserved with red road paint, a provisional intervention that highlighted the need to improve accessibility in this part of the old town. The municipal technical report points out "substantially narrow" sidewalks, and in some places, "practically impassable" for people with reduced mobility, forcing pedestrians to walk on the roadway with the associated risks.
The renovation will involve demolishing existing pavements and curbs and milling the asphalt to create the new pedestrian surfaces. These will have a concrete slab and be finished with clinker-type ceramic paving stones, using orange tones to blend with the historic center's facades.
In addition to gaining space for pedestrians, the project includes the incorporation of new trees, tree pits, and planters to increase shaded areas. The chosen species are Bauhinia purpurea (Orchid Tree) and the fruitless white mulberry, with a new irrigation system for the vegetation.
The renewal of the drinking water network is another significant item. Taking advantage of the sidewalk excavation, existing pipelines, which have deficiencies in both layout and materials, will be improved. The irrigation system for the new trees will also be installed.
The project is part of Xàtiva's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, which prioritizes the elimination of architectural barriers and the creation of pedestrian routes. It will continue the pedestrianization already carried out in the vicinity of Font de Sant Joan and the church of los Santos Juanes, reducing through traffic between neighborhoods. The estimated execution period is 4 months.
