The Xirivella City Council plenary session has given the green light to two key agreements for the future CEIP Gregori Mayans i Ciscar. The first is the final approval of the construction project for the new educational center. The second is the acceptance of the modification to the delegation of competencies from the Ministry of Education, which increases the funding by 6,326,554.64 euros, bringing the total cost of the project to 13,378,746.22 euros.
With these two agreements, the new school now has its project approved and its funding guaranteed. The City Council will immediately proceed with the tender for the works.
The works, scheduled to start next year, will be carried out in several phases. Initially, prefabricated classrooms will be installed on a municipal plot near the current center to ensure the continuity of educational activities. Subsequently, the current building will be demolished, and the new school will be constructed in its place.
The mayor, Paqui Bartual, acknowledged that "works of this magnitude will alter the daily life of the neighborhood for a time, and we ask for the understanding of the residents. But it is an investment that benefits us all: a new, safe, and future-ready school is the best bet we can make for quality public education in Xirivella."
The delegation of competencies, approved in December 2020, initially had a funding of 7,052,191.58 euros. Its update responds to the increase in construction costs and allows for the execution of a project that incorporates new technical and safety solutions, adapted to the center's needs and the experience of the dana (heavy rainfall) on October 29, 2024.
Among the improvements are the elevation of the ground floor by 70 centimeters and the placement of the sports court at a height of four meters, also designed as a safe evacuation space. The design includes drainage systems and an area under the building to manage water accumulation during intense rainfall episodes. The new Gregori Mayans will have nearly 6,000 square meters of built area and will maintain its location in the urban center.
"Since we took office, we have focused on unblocking this project, updating it, improving it, and securing the necessary funding, and I want to thank the collaboration of the Ministry of Education. Today we take the final step before tendering. Now it's time to turn all that work into the school that our children deserve and that so many families have been waiting for for years," stated Bartual.
