Paiporta inaugurated this Wednesday the tenth edition of the Paiporta Món de Contes Oral Storytelling Festival, a cultural event celebrating a decade dedicated to the art of storytelling, poetry, and shared word.
The opening, held at the Museu de la Rajoleria, featured a performance by Sheila Blanco, who presented Cantando a las poetas del 27, a show combining music and poetry to honor the poets of that generation.
The festival, organized by the María Moliner Ruiz Public Library and the Culture Department of the Paiporta City Council, will continue until this Sunday, October 18th. The program includes oral storytelling, poetry, music, and theater for all audiences, as well as school activities for students in the third cycle of Primary and the first year of Secondary Education.
The mayor of Paiporta, Vicent Císcar, highlighted the value of imagination and stories as tools for understanding the world and approaching other realities, emphasizing the importance of initiatives like Món de Contes in making culture a space for meeting, learning, and coexistence.
Císcar also praised the festival's trajectory and the work of its organizers, recognizing it as a benchmark cultural project that continues to grow alongside Paiporta.
The Councilor for Culture and Citizen Participation, Esther Torrijos, underscored the importance of local culture and the promotion of reading and listening, noting that oral storytelling remains an artistic expression capable of moving people of all ages.
The festival director, Susu Benítez, presented the program for this edition, recalling that over the festival's ten years, 72 storytellers from across Spain and from Europe, Africa, Asia, and America have participated, consolidating it as a leading cultural event.
Following the inauguration, the festival will feature performances by artists such as Paula Carballeira, Estrella Ortiz, Rodamons, Ana Titiricuento, and Raúl Vacas, along with a session of Valencian storytellers. The closing event will be on Sunday, October 18th, with the show El amor, la vida y la muerte by Raúl Vacas, at the María Moliner Ruiz Public Library.
