The city of Mislata bid farewell this Monday to its Favorite Son, sculptor Miquel Navarro, in an emotional ceremony held at his House-Workshop, the place where he developed much of his career.

Navarro's creative space, located on Martí Gadea street, was filled with family, friends, artists, cultural and institutional representatives, as well as numerous residents, to pay tribute to one of the benchmarks of Spanish contemporary sculpture.
The mayor of Mislata and president of the Miquel Navarro Foundation, Carlos F. Bielsa, was the first to sign the book of condolences. Throughout the day, the House-Workshop received flowers, memories, and tokens of affection for the artist.
Personalities such as the former president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig; the vice-president of the Consell, Susana Camarero; the Minister of Culture, María del Carmen Ortí; the director of the IVAM, Blanca de la Torre; and the mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, among others, conveyed their condolences.
Fellow artists such as Carmen Calvo, José María Yturralde, and Vicente Marzal also wished to bid farewell to Navarro, a key figure of the New Spanish Sculpture.
Mayor Bielsa highlighted the deep respect and affection Navarro inspired, defining him as "a universal artist, a generous and humble friend, profoundly linked to this city." He emphasized that the House-Workshop "will always be the legacy and the greatest treasure" to preserve his memory.
Miquel Navarro maintained a deep connection with Mislata, where he lived and developed much of his career. His generous donation of over five hundred pieces to the Miquel Navarro Foundation will transform the House-Workshop into an important contemporary art center for the dissemination of his work.
The sculptor will be buried this afternoon in the cemetery of Siete Aguas.
