The new infrastructure will link Avenida dels Tarongers, located in the industrial area, with José Capuz and Literat Azorín streets, near the indoor swimming pool and the future sports pavilion. This action is part of a package of municipal interventions to be carried out with the 8,967,658 euros from European FEDER funds, granted through the EDIL DANA Plan.
The Ministry of Finance has resolved the call for these grants, designed to boost the reconstruction of municipalities affected by the DANA (intense rainfall and flooding) and strengthen their capacity against future extreme weather events. The funds will enable progress in the execution of Paiporta's Integrated Action Plan (PAI), which includes municipal transformations and addresses key challenges identified after the catastrophe, particularly in mobility, social facilities, housing, and resilience.
The mayor of Paiporta, Vicent Ciscar, positively assessed the resolution, highlighting that "it allows us to continue developing concrete actions within the municipal reconstruction strategy we have implemented after the DANA". Ciscar pointed out that the investment "is not limited to repairing the damage caused by the flood, but allows us to look towards the future and build a safer, more accessible, more sustainable municipality with more resources for the citizens".
The bridge-footpath will improve the connection with the Alqueria de Mina industrial estate and the CV-400 road, facilitating mobility towards Alfafar, Benetússer, Catarroja, and the city of Valencia. Furthermore, it will strengthen alternative communication and evacuation routes in emergency situations.
The European funding, with 95% co-financing, will also cover the creation of an intergenerational center and the demolition and reconstruction of a building with 10 social housing units on José Iturbi street. The deputy mayor and councilor for Reconstruction, Marian Val, emphasized that "these funds represent an extraordinary opportunity to advance the transformation of our municipality with social projects that have a direct impact on people's lives".
The councilor for Reconstruction and Urban Mobility, Alejandro Sánchez, highlighted that the granting of European funds allows "taking a decisive step to materialize an infrastructure that Paiporta has needed for years". He added that "after the DANA, we have further confirmed the importance of having a secure, accessible communication network with alternatives", and that the bridge will improve daily mobility and the municipality's response capacity to future emergencies.
