The Valencian Fund for Solidarity has activated an emergency protocol to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, worsened by recent earthquakes. The initiative, organized with the Standing Committee for Humanitarian Action of the Valencian Community (CAHE), aims for an effective on-the-ground response.
The participating municipalities, including L'Alfàs del Pi, Castelló de Rugat, Corbera, Gandia, Manises, Marines, Moncada, L'Olleria, Paiporta, Pedreguer, Picassent, La Pobla de Farnals, Polinyà de Xúquer, Quart de Poblet, El Verger, Vila-real, and Xàtiva, have made extraordinary contributions totaling €71,070. An additional €30,000 from the Valencian Fund brings the total to €101,070 for project financing.
These funds will support two projects managed by UNHCR and UNICEF. With UNHCR, kits of basic non-food items will be distributed to 375 families (1,875 people), including kitchenware, bedding, solar lights, and water containers. With UNICEF, access to essential water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services will be improved for 4,500 people directly and 4,000 indirectly, reducing immediate health risks.
The agreement signing took place in Paiporta, a municipality also affected by the dana storm, symbolizing Valencian solidarity in the face of humanitarian crises. The event was attended by Xelo Angulo, president of the Valencian Fund; Vicent Císcar, mayor of Paiporta; Arancha García from UNHCR Valencian Community; and Marlene Perkins from UNICEF Valencian Community.
Xelo Angulo highlighted the importance of international cooperation and pride in the united Valencian municipalism facing extreme situations, emphasizing that Valencian local entities are a benchmark in Official Development Assistance (ODA).
Vicent Císcar, for his part, stressed the significance of coordinated external support based on the experience of the dana, and highlighted the increased sensitivity of Valencian municipalism towards the problems of impoverished countries.
The CAHE, as a coordination instrument for public and private institutions, integrates synergies to enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian aid.
In related news, the Valencian Fund for Solidarity has welcomed 6 new municipalities in the first half of 2026: Albocàsser, Beneixida, Benlloc, Manises, Ondara, and Zarra. With these additions, the Fund now has 166 members (158 town councils and 8 inter-municipal associations), representing 29.15% of Valencian municipalities.
Xelo Angulo positively assessed this growth, which strengthens the commitment of solidary Valencian municipalism. The mayors of the new municipalities agree that their adherence materializes the solidarity of their localities.
