The Rafelbunyol City Council, through its Municipal Public Library, has commemorated the Day of the Female Writer with a collective reading of women's texts, aiming to highlight their contributions to literature.

This year's event was centered around the theme “Friends as a Form of Freedom,” in homage to the centenary of the Lyceum Club Femenino. This cultural association, founded in Madrid in 1926, served as a meeting place for thought and emancipation for women during a time when their participation in cultural and intellectual life was severely limited.
The reading, held at the Municipal Public Library, featured participants from the cultural, educational, associative, and local political spheres. It was an emotional event that gave voice to female authors who have too often been relegated or silenced in literary history.
“

"Giving voice to women writers also means recognizing their contribution to our culture and recovering a part of history that for too long has not received the recognition it deserves. Events like this help us build a more egalitarian society, conscious of its legacy."

Fran López · Mayor of Rafelbunyol
“

"The legacy of the women of the Lyceum Club Femenino remains fully relevant, because a more just, free, and egalitarian society needs an educated, critical citizenry with access to culture. To champion those women is to recognize their bravery and remember that investing in education and culture means betting on equal opportunities, personal emancipation, and collective progress. Because culture not only helps us understand the world, but also gives us the tools to question it and build a better one."

Alicia Piquer · Councillor for Culture
