The project, funded with 530,913 euros, will allow for the roofing of the court, a long-awaited improvement by users. The new configuration will not only enhance basketball practice but also accommodate other sports such as volleyball, a highly demanded discipline in the municipality that currently lacks a dedicated facility at the sports center.
The project also includes the renovation of the lighting, improvements to the stands, the enclosure, and the ventilation of the changing rooms. The roof will enable the court to be used for longer periods and for a greater number of activities, reducing reliance on adverse weather conditions.
The Councilor for Sports, Carmen Alcíbar, highlighted that “the roof allows us to go far beyond improving a basketball court. We want to turn it into a multipurpose sports space that can accommodate volleyball and other sports, better meeting the municipality's sporting needs”.
Furthermore, the roof will provide a shaded area protected from sun and rain, usable as a climate refuge for students from CEIP Cervantes and participants in the municipal multisports campus. This will allow outdoor activities to continue under better protection during hotter months and offer a covered alternative when weather conditions are unfavorable.
Alcíbar noted that “having a covered surface of this nature is also a significant improvement for schoolchildren and campus activities, as it will provide a protected space against heat or rain, allowing for better adaptation of the sports program”.
The new roof will also expand the possibilities for hosting other sports events at the Batiste Subies sports center, enabling the space to accommodate activities, exhibitions, or gatherings without being as dependent on the weather. The renovation of the lighting, stands, enclosure, and changing room ventilation will complete the intervention.
The project is now entering the bidding phase. The planned administrative timelines indicate the commencement of the work from early 2027, once the necessary procedures for contracting and awarding the works are completed. The project is part of the Provincial Council of Valencia's Open Investment Plan (2024-2027).
