The difficulty in accessing housing and job precarity are the two main personal concerns for young Valencians (aged 18 to 35), affecting 24.5% and 23.4% respectively. Inflation follows at a greater distance with 13.9%. These data come from the Municipal Opinion Barometer, conducted on a sample of 2,100 residents.
At the national level, concern about housing increases to 33.3% and employment to 26.6%. Young people rate the difficulty of accessing a property at 9.0 and working conditions at 9.1 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Currently, only 42.6% of young Valencians are emancipated, while 55.1% still live in their family home. The main reasons for continuing to live at home are studies (41.8%), lack of economic resources (28%), and difficulty accessing the real estate market (10.5%).
Of the young people who have managed to become independent, 61.6% live on rent, compared to 16.5% who own a home with a pending mortgage. The majority (52.4%) became independent between the ages of 18 and 23.
Economic dependence is high: only 30.7% of young people support themselves exclusively with their own resources. A further 35.6% depend 100% on their family.
The difficulty in consolidating their own home is reflected in birth rates: 81.2% of respondents do not have children, although 41.2% would like to have two.
