A sailboat, named Alomar, ran aground yesterday in the channel located between the Portitxol island and the cove of the same name, on the coast of Xàbia. The vessel, with two people on board, had to request help via VHF radio.
The Coordination Center of Maritime Rescue of València mobilized the vessel Salvamar Fénix to the area. Its crew managed to free the sailboat from the grounding and return it to a safe zone, after verifying it could continue sailing without risks.
The incident serves as a reminder of the danger of ignoring signage. The channel, with shallow draft, is restricted for boats to specifically prevent situations like this, where the risk of running aground is high.
