The Valencia City Council has activated a special device in response to the red alert for high temperatures forecast for this Wednesday, August 19, implementing measures affecting sports activities, municipal services, and public spaces.

Weather forecasts indicate temperatures could exceed 40 degrees Celsius, prompting the council to adopt preventive measures to reduce public exposure to extreme heat. Mayor María José Catalá chaired the Cecopal meeting, where responses were coordinated.
Outdoor sports activities organized by the Municipal Sports Foundation have been suspended, including beach-based classes. La Devesa will remain closed until Friday, August 21, due to fire risk, and the SideInfo system for El Saler's cannons has also been activated. Municipal swimming pools will extend their hours until 9:00 PM.
Climate shelters will be opened, and the red alert has been communicated to users of Senior Day Centers, Teleassistance, and other social services. The CAES centers in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Benimaclet, and El Carmen will also remain open. Special attention is recommended for vulnerable groups, and people and animals should not be left in parked vehicles.
Extraordinary markets in El Grao, Benimàmet, and Avenida del Cid, as well as the one on Paseo Marítimo, will close early at 12:30 PM. The Serranos and Quart Towers, cemeteries, Casal d’Esplai, and Gulliver Park will be closed or will close at 1:00 PM. Use of playgrounds during peak heat hours is discouraged.
Cleaning operations will conclude at 12:00 PM, except for waste collection. Asphalting and other public works will be suspended. The City Council urges citizens to limit non-essential travel, stay hydrated, and utilize PUSDAR fountains.
In case of heatstroke symptoms, calling 112 is recommended. The situation's evolution can be followed on the official channels: @ajuntamentvlc, AEMET, Emergencias 112 Comunitat Valenciana, and the GVA 112 Avisos app.
