The residents of Torrent will be able to enjoy the grand final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup live, thanks to the initiative of the Department of Sports. The screening will take place on Sunday, July 19, starting at 9:00 PM, in the heart of the city, the Plaza de la Unión Musical. Spain will face the winner of the semi-final between England and Argentina, in a match to be held at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
The venue's gates will open at 8:00 PM, one hour before the match begins, to offer a full pre-game program including musical ambiance, a speaker, entertainment, face painting, and flag distribution. The aim is to create a festive and World Cup atmosphere in the square.
Access to the square will be free and open until capacity is reached. With this measure, the council aims to allow citizens to experience together one of the most significant sporting events of recent years. The Plaza de la Unión Musical will transform into a large open-air grandstand to cheer for the Spanish National Team.
The mayor, Amparo Folgado, highlighted the importance of this historic opportunity for Spain and expressed the City Council's desire for Torrent to experience it united. For her part, the Councilor for Sports, Mª Ángeles Lerma, detailed the pre-game program, designed to create a family-friendly and festive atmosphere.
The Spanish national team reaches this final 16 years after their victory in South Africa 2010, having defeated France 2-0 in the semi-final. The match represents the possibility of Spain winning its second World Cup.
The City Council recommends arriving in advance and requests citizen cooperation to experience the match with civility and respect. Councilor Lerma encouraged families and sports clubs to fill the square with the colors of Spain.
This initiative continues previous similar events, such as the finals of the men's Euro 2024 and women's Euro 2025, also held in the Plaza de la Unión Musical.
