To preserve the local dance traditions, the Dansa Batalla de Moros i Cristians and the Grup Cultural de Danses of Peñíscola have joined forces for a solidarity initiative. The project involves selling four specially designed bracelets to raise funds for the creation of a new museum space dedicated to these cultural events.
The two groups are offering a pack of four bracelets for 5 euros. All proceeds from this campaign will go towards acquiring materials and launching the museum project, which aims to preserve and promote the dances performed every September in honor of the Virgen de la Ermitana, the town's patron saint.
Each bracelet features one of four selected messages, inspired by the Virgin's mantle and closely linked to Peñíscola's identity and heritage. The chosen phrases are «l'herència que es balla» (the heritage that is danced), «al combate, a la victoria» (to combat, to victory), «som poble, som dansa» (we are people, we are dance), and «mañana será otro día» (tomorrow will be another day). These expressions aim to connect with generations of residents and make the bracelets a symbol of the festive tradition.
The mayor of Peñíscola, Andrés Martínez, praised the initiative, highlighting the importance of citizen involvement in the future exhibition space. The museum is expected to open next year, becoming a center for the preservation and dissemination of the town's festive heritage.
This project comes at a significant time, as the upcoming Patron Saint Festivities in honor of the Virgen de la Ermitana will be the first to be celebrated with the designation of Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC). The Dansa Batalla de Moros i Cristians and the Grup Cultural de Danses, represented by their presidents Juan Llaudis and Jesús Bayarri, will be the main custodians of these celebrations.
The new museum is envisioned as a legacy for future generations, strengthening the connection between the community and the local festive heritage. According to Martínez, the project is progressing with «the enthusiasm and collaboration of everyone».
