The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated a red alert in the southern coast of Valencia, where maximum temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius have been recorded. Forecasts suggest the possibility of reaching extreme temperatures again, such as the 44.8 degrees Celsius registered yesterday in Carcaixent. A total of 265 municipalities in the Valencian Community are at high risk due to the heatwave.
The extreme heat has had direct consequences on mobility services, causing delays and breakdowns in the air conditioning of commuter trains and Metrovalencia. Furthermore, emblematic locations like the Central Market of Valencia have suffered the impact of deteriorating refrigeration units, forcing some stalls to limit their merchandise.
In parallel, a forest fire in Soneja is out of control and has already burned approximately 150 hectares. The fire has entered the Sierra de Espadán Natural Park, necessitating the evacuation of 30 people from the Polytechnic University as a precautionary measure.
