According to data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE) in the Labour Force Survey, the number of people without a job has reached 304,600. This 7.1% drop compared to the previous quarter places the regional unemployment rate at 10.88%, the lowest level for a second quarter since 2008.
The labour market has experienced growth of 34,100 jobs in the last three months. By sector, the private sector has led job creation with 40,800 new positions, while the public sector has registered a decrease of 6,800 employed people.
Regarding the quality of hiring, the number of employees with an indefinite contract has increased by 14,900 people. Currently, 84.17% of employees have an indefinite contract, compared to 15.83% who maintain a temporary contract.
Sectoral analysis reveals that unemployment has decreased especially in agriculture and among the group of people looking for their first job or who left their last job more than a year ago. Conversely, an increase in unemployed people has been observed in construction and industry.
