The academic year began on September 7 with a total of 383 enrollments: 243 in undergraduate studies and 140 in master's programs. Of these, 77 students are Spanish (37 in undergraduate and 40 in postgraduate), while the remaining 306 students are from China (206 in undergraduate and 100 in master's).
The rector of the UPV, José Capilla, highlighted the pioneering nature of the center, which is the first Spanish university center officially registered with the Chinese Ministry of Education. The institutional inauguration will be attended by a broad representation, including the Minister of Education, Carmen Ortí, and the Councilor for Tourism of the València City Council, Paula Llobet.
The Beihang Valencia Polytechnic Institute (BVPI) is a joint project with Beihang University, considered strategic by the UPV. Rector Capilla emphasized that the launch of BVPI demonstrates the quality of the Valencian university system and its international projection capabilities.
Hangzhou, a key technological and innovation hub in China, hosts leading companies such as Geely, Unitree, and Alibaba, facilitating the connection between university education and industry in sectors like smart mobility, robotics, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies.
The UPV aims for the project to extend beyond teaching, creating an ecosystem that collaborates with the industrial environment and leading technology companies. Agreements have already been signed with companies like Unitree and Huawei to strengthen technological and educational cooperation between China and the Valencian Community.
The BVPI's teaching model combines UPV faculty (34%) with international faculty (66%). Approximately one hundred UPV professors, all holding doctorates, will travel to Hangzhou using the 'flying professor' model, staying for two to four weeks.
The initial academic offering includes four undergraduate degrees, six master's programs, and doctoral activities, with plans for progressive growth. The project aims to become a benchmark for university cooperation between Spain and China, connecting academia, technology, and industry.
