The Conselleria of Infrastructures, Territory, and Environment of the Generalitat Valenciana is analyzing the construction of an underpass, a footbridge, or the burial of the metro tracks to solve the division that the municipality of l'Eliana suffers since the closure of the station's pedestrian crossing. This issue affects mobility and railway safety.
The options have been presented to the City Council and neighborhood associations in a working meeting. Both parties have agreed to move towards a technically and urbanistically viable solution. The Generalitat will initiate the necessary technical studies to determine the best alternative. Sources from the Conselleria indicate that no possibility is ruled out, but there is a preference for an underground passage, with an estimated investment of around two million euros.
The Director General of Terrestrial Infrastructures, María José Martínez, conveyed the plan to the mayor of the municipality, Salva Torrent, and neighborhood representatives. The initial project will be presented soon before continuing with the technical and administrative development. The Conselleria commits to maintaining constant communication with the parties.
This initiative comes after months of neighborhood demands. The closure of the historic crossing by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) generated widespread rejection, as the alternative route requires walking an additional 570 meters and hinders the mobility of people with reduced mobility. The Entrevies Neighborhood Association called for a protest in April to demand a solution.
The city council requested an opinion from the Consell Jurídic Consultiu (CJC), which urged the Generalitat to study the regularization of the crossing. The CJC concluded that the crossing's particularities must be considered, such as its use for over 130 years and the limitations of the alternative route.
