An unprecedented operation, involving 15,000 personnel, 29 aerial resources, and 40 drones, has been prepared for the total solar eclipse, the first in over 100 years. The Generalitat Valenciana has assumed unified command of the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (CECOPI), activating emergency level 2 to manage risks associated with both citizen mobilization and meteorological conditions.
The primary concern focuses on the extreme risk of fires, exacerbated by weather conditions and population movement towards forested areas. To prevent these incidents, all natural parks in the Valencian Community have been closed, free camping is prohibited, and citizens have been advised to avoid wooded areas, directing them to the 9 designated official observation points.
The operation includes over 2,000 forest firefighters, technical staff, Civil Protection members, and volunteers, supported by 29 aerial resources and 40 drones. Additionally, more than 5,000 local police officers, Generalitat police, Civil Guard, and National Police will work on road control due to the forecast of thousands of displacements and potential traffic jams.
Health services have also been reinforced with nearly 8,000 healthcare professionals, monitoring for potential emergencies arising from the non-use of regulatory glasses for observing the eclipse. The territorial emergency plan has been activated to level 2, with CECOPI as the main headquarters, and level 3 of extreme forest fire risk has been established throughout the territory.
