The Cheste City Council is collaborating in the distribution of free insecticide to combat the fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) in the municipality's early citrus varieties.

Farmers in Cheste cultivating early citrus varieties now have free insecticide available to combat the fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata), a pest with significant incidence in the weeks leading up to harvest. The Conselleria de Agricultura, Agua, Ganadería y Pesca (Ministry of Agriculture, Water, Livestock, and Fisheries) has launched the Campaign Against Ceratitis capitata 2026, and the Cheste City Council is acting as a distribution point for local farmers.
The provided insecticide is Spinosad 0.024% in bait formulation, suitable for both organic and conventional agriculture. It will be applied at a rate of one liter per hectare using a spot treatment, with application costs borne by the farmer.
The varieties included in this campaign are the early ones: M-7 Fukumoto, Navelina, Tomatera, Orogrande, Clementina Fina, Washington Navel, Navel Foyos, Clemenules, Nulessin, Newhall, Caracara, Salustiana, and Nova.
The Councilor for Agriculture, Adrián Tarín, encourages farmers in the municipality to take advantage of this aid. Those not belonging to a cooperative can collect the product directly from the Cheste City Council, while cooperative members will receive it through their cooperative.
To receive the product, it is essential to hold a professional user card for phytosanitary products. If a person collects the product on behalf of another or an agricultural holding, they must provide proof of authorization to act on their behalf. Each application must cover a minimum area of five hectares.
